Bible Conference

Like a roller coaster, spring semester at BJU starts off slowly and then builds to a climax with quick finish. That climax of the semester is Bible Conference. It’s a week to take a break from the busyness of classes to hear God’s Word preached. Bible Conference is a key component of life at BJU because it’s a time to be refreshed and to refocus on Christ.

“I think it’s really easy to get your heart hardened, even though you’re around spiritual things,” Dr. Steve Pettit says.

“Bible Conference is a week where Christ comes in the storm and gives direction in students’ lives—through the Word, prayer, fellowship and counsel. It is a great time of spiritual refreshment.”

A main focus of Bible Conference is always the offering. This year three different missions projects were chosen, each one focusing on God’s work beyond the University. The money that was raised went to help a church plant in Orrville, Ohio, a translation of I John for the Rawang people in Myanmar, and a tent-making business opportunity in a restricted-access nation. Pettit described the offering as a project that the student body could fully get behind, supporting the advance of the Gospel around the world. The goal to meet was about $30,000. But by the end of Bible Conference week, over $70,000 had been raised for Gospel Advance.
